Monodeluxe feat. Jannae Jordan - Time (EP) |
I don't know what the weather is like in Europe right now but here in North America on the east coast, it's hotter than July! Good thing that Monodeluxe (aka Alessandro Oliveiro) has delivered a nice chilled out slice of down tempo soulful house: "Time." Featuring the sensuous and ethereal vocals of Jannae Jordan (whom you might know from her work with the New York funk Band Nu-Klear), "Time" is being released as an EP with four re-mixes.
The original version has just enough of a bounce that it sort of makes the lyric's theme of a love lost seem almost trivial. Almost. That's why I'm digging the airy up tempo "Cool Out" mix with its pumping four on the floor groove, haunting daubs of saxophone, dubb-y vocals, and echoes that create a near celestial aura suitable for both a packed dance floor or listening alone on the headphones with your favorite mind-altering substance.
"Time" is an excellent instance of how great dance music works on both a cathartic and cerebral level.
